In the context of the Paris Climate Agreement, there is today a strong need for enhanced international cooperation fostering emissions trading around the world. Building on the experience with the EU ETS, the EU plays a leading role in this area.
The ultimate objective of LIFE DICET is to support EU and Member State policymakers in deepening international cooperation for the development and possible integration of carbon markets. In the next few years, policymakers active in this area will need:
- deep knowledge about the functioning of carbon markets;
- effective communication with relevant stakeholders;
- with specific reference to the European Commission as the regulator of the EU ETS, direct exchange of high-quality information and views with its international counterparts, namely with the regulators of other major ETSs.
LIFE DICET will provide EU and Member State policymakers directly or indirectly involved in international carbon market cooperation with a support package that responds to these needs.
